Plant Identification

Teaching the little one to identify plantain leaves and how to harvest them. We only take a third of a patch at a time. Also known as white man'a foot by the Native American Indians, plantago major is one of the most important ingredients in the healing skin salve.
"The leaves are also used to dress wounds, dog and insect bites, to stop bleeding and prevent infections. Held in the mouth it heals ulcers, strengthens the gums, relieves throat infections, irritations, coughs and nosebleeds. A poultice of the fresh leaves cures herpes, especially on the face, syphilitic sores and parasitic skin diseases. It is also good for teething babies."- Rashan Abdul Hakim

Repurpose Rosemary

Taking it slow this morning And taking the time to cut select sprigs from this dried #rosemary bush to use as #bbq skewers. Open fire cooking is all we do in the summer๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒฟ
"Arabian physicians used rosemary to comfort the brain, strengthen the memory, and restore speech...in times of epidemic and plagues in Europe, rosemary was burned, and simmered in open pots to kill germs and viruses in the air thus preventing them from spreading. Rosemary was the key in controlling the spread of disease in Europe because it's ability to kill airborn germs on contact made it a natural germicide and disinfectant."- Rashan Abdul Hakim

Healing Skin

Fresh batch of healing salve at different stages of hardening. I personally keep about 4 jars on hand at all times. Bedside, first aid kit, handbag, glove compartment. Something I never leave home without. So useful for about anything that goes wrong. Headaches, nausea, cuts, burns, bites, stings, rashes, pulled muscles, sores, sprains, inflammation, eczema, dry skin, mild sunscreen. Maybe I should call it #healall 4 herbs, in extra virgin olive oil & Virgin #coconutoil a little beeswax and some potent essential oils to soothe and heal . Buy some here.

Bug Repellant

Bugs don't like smoke. If you don't have citronella, put some Sage & Frankincense in the air.

Majestic Sage

Beautiful garden #sage bush I had to prune at the new plot. So much sage, so little time..
Sage has one of the longest histories of use of any culinary or medicinal herb. Ancient Egyptians used it as a fertility drug (Bown, 1995). In the first century C.E. Greek physician Dioscorides reported that the aqueous decoction of sage stopped bleeding of wounds and cleaned ulcers and sores. He also recommended sage juice in warm water for hoarseness and coughs. It was used by herbalists externally to treat sprains, swelling, ulcers, and bleeding. Internally, a tea made from sage leaves has had a long history of use to treat sore throats and coughs; often by gargling. It was also used by herbalists for rheumatism, excessive menstrual bleeding, and to dry up a mother's milk when nursing was stopped. It was particularly noted for strengthening the nervous system, improving memory, and sharpening the senses. Sage was officially listed in the United States Pharmacopoeia from 1840 to 1900.

Warming Tea Blend

Spicy Kukicha tea to start the dAy. #ginger #anise #licorice #cinnamon #plantbased #medicinal
Kukicha, also known as twig tea or 3 year tea, is aged after harvest and roasted. #Kukicha #tea is also known as three years tea because the stems and branches that are used to do it have been in the tea plant for at least three years, so they have lost virtually all of the caffeine (only kukicha tea is between 0.5 and 1% caffeine) but, however, have absorbed all the minerals and vitamins around them.
Twig tea has more than twice the vitamin C of oranges and very high in calcium.

Kukicha is also high in: • Iron
• Zinc
• Selenium
• Copper
• Manganese
• Fluoride
• B vitamins
• Vitamin A
• Theanine
• Catechins
• Flavonoids
• Amino acids

It is a really alkalizing drink, Neutralizing the acidity and tannins kukicha contributes to proper digestion of grains and vegetables, enhancing its benefits and vitamins.
It has a high calcium content: a cup of tea contains up to 13 times more calcium than a glass of milk
