Soap Nuts

Native to India and Nepal yet found around the world Soap Nuts are gaining popularity as an eco friendly hypoallergenic alternative to chemical based detergents. Soap Nuts contain Saponin, a natural detergent from which conventional soap is derived from. The Soap Nut absorbs water and releases saponins into wash water, removing dirt, oil and grime. It only take about 6 Soap Nuts to a cotton muslin bag to wash a load of laundry and can be uses over and over again until the nuts loose their brown color. This usually about a dozen loads and the Nuts can be composted afterwards. You can add a scoop of baking soda for large heavily soiled loads. Add up to 9 drops of essential oil per load to add fragrance.

After watching I realize how little I covered on but at the same time there is so much to say about each plant as far as it's applications, uses of each plant part, harvest techniques, storage and the list goes on. This is not meant as a definite identification and wild edible guide as much as an introduction. Feel free to ask questions!

Tooth Powder over Tooth Paste
